Joel Snyder was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. After graduating with a B. Mus. in Church Music from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, Joel went on to obtain an M.M. in Voice Performance from Eastern Michigan University. He is currently completing an M.M. in Choral Conducting from Western Michigan University.

Joel has been teaching young folks to sing for several years. He taught music at a private school in North Carolina for several years before returning to his native state of Michigan to direct the Battle Creek Boychoir and Girls Chorus. It was during his time in Battle Creek that he saw a need for similar education and performance opportunities in the Branch County, Michigan area and thus, the Branch United Youth Choir was born.

Music has always been a vital part of Joel’s life. His family was actively involved in worship music. Singing mostly unaccompanied, they travelled to various churches in the metro Detroit area and such diverse places as Ireland and Thailand. While in college, he also represented his college as a singer in their travelling ensemble. He has personally lead choirs on tour in Canada and Italy, as well as several places in the United States.
